How do you clean make up brushes and how is best to dry them?

Hygiene and thorough cleaning of makeup brushes has never been more important than it is right now. Prevention of cross contamination and hygiene standards are on the forefront of everybody’s minds especially in the makeup and beauty industry with viruses such as Covid 19 about. So it is incredibly important to be vigilant with hygiene standard both within your own personal make up brush collection and more importantly if you are working in the industry with clientele.

Cleaning on the go is incredibly important, I wash and disinfect not only my brushes but the container that I carry my brushes in after ever use. I also carry clear plastic sandwich bags to carry used brushes and keep them separate I also do this with containers so I am not putting a used brush beside my clean brushes. To clean on the go I use MAC Brush cleanser. This nourishes the brush fibre while cleaning and disinfectingand it also dries quickly so you can reuse the brush quicker. To do this I pour brush cleanser on a clean tissue and swirl the brush fibers on the tissue removing all make up residue till the brush is totally clean, then I reshape the fibers and stand it upwards in a clean container to air dry.

For a deep clean after every client I use dish soap. I get a clean basin pre sanitized and I fill it with warm water and dish soap and a small amount of disinfectant. I submerge the brush fully to clean every part including the handle but don’t leave it too long or you will damage the glue holding the fibers. Then I concentrate on the fibers giving each brush a deep clean then I rinse thoroughly. Then on the edge of a desk or window ledge put a clean towel down. Reshape each make up brush while the fibers are still damp and leave to dry with the brush tip over the edge to allow for more air circulation.
